HardingPoorman Group recently ran an internal employee campaign to raise money for United Way in 2011. We asked our employees to consider increasing their donations to help United Way get closer to their goal. With the questionable economy, we weren’t sure what kind of response we would get.
Boy, did our employees ever come through! The results were overwhelming! HPG employees increased their giving by more than 700%, and went on to receive United Way’s “Company That Cares” award.
How does something like this happen? Well, first of all, it takes exceptional employees – which we are proud to say, we have. It also takes a little creativity, and a willingness to have fun.

Here’s what we did to help inspire our team to give. HPG ran week long “event campaign” to get our employees excited about United Way giving, including:
- Kickoff Waffle breakfast – All staff members received a yummy breakfast while a rep from United Way shared a little about the organization
- PTO Day Raffle – Very popular raffle for an extra vacation day!
- Change drive – A “guys vs. girls” battle where the team that donated the most change over the course of the week won ice cream served by the runners up!
- Pie throwing – Any employee that donated $100 or more had the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of David Harding or Bob Poorman.
