Cell phone recycling

HardingPoorman Group is among the top ten Green Certified printers in the country.

We take pride in being a clean company and an industry leader for environmentally conscious practices. That’s why we decided to do a Cell Phone Collection with our staff this holiday season!

Here are some surprising facts about cell phones that you may not      know:

  • Cell phones are potentially hazardous waste because they contain lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic. If thrown in the trash and sent to incinerators or landfills, environmental contamination can occur from combustion and leaching into soil and groundwater.

  • Sadly, less than 2% of old cell phones are being recycled today — we are calling on the public to help raise the profile of this important issue.

  • There are more than 500 million used cell phones in the U.S. sitting in people’s drawers or in our landfills.

  • The EPA estimates cell phones will be thrown away at a rate of 130 million a year that equals 65,000 tons of waste containing toxic metals!

There are many places that will take cell phones and properly recycle them or reuse them.  We decided to donate our collection to the Julians Center of Indianapolis to be reused for families in need!

Here’s to the earth & the environment!
